Frequently asked questions

What does “UTF-8 bytes” mean?
It is the size of the text when stored as UTF-8, the standard text encoding. ASCII characters use 1 byte, while accented letters, emoji and many other scripts use 2–4 bytes.
Do line breaks count as characters?
Yes — line breaks are characters too. The “without spaces” figure still includes line breaks.
